From the Florida Highway Patrol
Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision this morning in Clay County that resulted in the death of the driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:56 am, a sedan driven by a 24-year-old Orange Park man was traveling north on County Road 215, approaching State Road 21.
While traveling above the posted speed limit, the driver failed to negotiate the right curve, causing his vehicle to enter the grass median.
The vehicle rotated clockwise and overturned, which then caused it to tumble through the intersection.
The sedan came to a final rest, facing south on the north shoulder of North Periwinkle Avenue. The occupants (a 21-year-old Ft. Campbell, KY man who suffered minor injuries) were transported to a local hospital, where the driver was pronounced deceased.
The FHP did not release the driver's or passenger's name involved in the collision.
