Breaking Morning News: Driver dies after collision with a school bus in Levy County

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Levy County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:58 am, a 76-year-old Otter Creek man driving a pickup truck that was traveling west on State Road 24, approaching the intersection of US-19.

At the same time,  a school bus was traveling south on US-19 in the right lane, approaching the intersection of State Road 24.

As they approached, the first vehicle crossed over the northbound lanes through the intersection and entered the southbound lanes directly into the second vehicle's path of travel, thus violating its right-of-way.

In a T-bone-type collision, the school bus struck the pickup's right side with its front section.

The southbound lanes of US-19 / State Road 24 were obstructed, and FDOT was on scene to assist the Florida Highway Patrol with traffic control.

The driver and passenger in Vehicle-1 (a 72-year-old Otter Creek woman) sustained fatal injuries during the crash and were pronounced deceased on the scene by Levy County Fire Rescue.

The school bus driver was transported to the hospital for medical treatment, and no children or passengers were on board the bus.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the collision.
