Breaking News Overnight: Motorcyclist dies after collision with vehicle in Highlands County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Highlands County that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:06 pm, a 20-year-old Sebring man riding a motorcycle was traveling north on US-27 at a high rate of speed on the center lane north of South George Boulevard.
At the same time, a 27-year-old Lake Placid woman driving a sedan was traveling north on US 27, on the center lane, ahead of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist attempted to merge into the outside lane, and the sedan attempted to merge into the same lane. As a result, the front of the motorcycle collided with the rear of the sedan.
The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries, was transported to an area hospital, and was later pronounced deceased. The sedan driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or motorcyclist involved in the crash.
