Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision in St. John's County last night that resulted in the death of a bicyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:35 p.m., a van driven by a 26-year-old Truckee, CA man was traveling south on State Road A1A.
At the same time, a 47-year-old Miami man was riding a bicycle in the southbound travel lane.
As they approached, the right front of the van collided with the bicycle, causing the rider to become separated from the bicycle.
After the crash, the van came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder of A1A southbound. The bicyclist came to a final rest within the wood line on the right side of A1A southbound.
The bicyclist suffered fatal injuries, according to the report. The van driver reported no injuries to the FHP.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or the bicyclist involved in the collision.
