Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision in Duval County this morning that resulted in the death of a pedestrian and the search for a hit-and-run driver involved in the fatal collision.
According to the FHP report, an unknown vehicle (Suspect) was traveling northbound on Interstate 95 north of Edgewood Avenue on the Trout River Bridge within Jacksonville.
The vehicle was approaching a pedestrian who had exited their parked vehicle on the right shoulder.
The unknown vehicle then struck the pedestrian.
The unknown vehicle and driver then fled the scene traveling northbound on Interstate 95.
The pedestrian came to rest on the right shoulder. The pedestrian died from the injuries they sustained on-scene.
The current whereabouts of the suspect's vehicle are unknown, and law enforcement is actively seeking individuals with information. The description of the suspect's vehicle is as follows:
It will have a damaged outside side view mirror.
The reflective mirror will be missing and the forward facing plastic mirror cover will be missing. There will be damage to the inside wheel well undercarriage.
A front fender will be damaged.
