Breaking News Overnight: Two-vehicle collision in Dixie County kills driver

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Dixie County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:40 pm, a Jeep sport utility vehicle was traveling north on NE 349 HWY.

At the same time, a Ford pickup truck was traveling south on NE 349 HWY, and a "phantom vehicle" was also traveling south on NE 349 HWY directly in front of the pickup.

According to the FHP report, the phantom vehicle made a left turn on NE 349 HWY, entering the northbound lane of NE 349 HWY directly in the path of the Jeep. The SUV veered to the left, avoiding the vehicle, and entered the southbound lane of NE 349 HWY, directly in the path of the pickup, and they collided.

Following impact, the SUV rotated clockwise and entered the west grass shoulder of NE 349 HWY. The pickup rotated clockwise, coming to a final rest in the middle of NE 349 HWY facing northwesterly.

The SUV came to final rest in the west grass shoulder of NE 349 HWY facing an easterly direction.

The driver of the SUV, a 63-year-old female from Old Town, and the passenger, a 56-year-old male from Old Town, were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the pickup, a 59-year-old male from Old Town, was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the passenger involved in the crash or give any further details about the "phantom vehicle".
