Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Citrus County that resulted in the death of a passenger and critical injuries to a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 1:17 pm, an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) driven by a 35-year-old Belleview man and transporting a 38-year-old Belleview woman was traveling southbound on North Pine Drive. At the same time, a motorbike was traveling northbound on North Pine Drive.
As the two vehicles approached each other near East Kathy Road, the ATV driver took evasive action to avoid a collision and traveled off the roadway, at which point both occupants were ejected from the ATV.
Subsequently, both occupants were struck by the motorbike, resulting in fatal injuries to the passenger of the ATV and life-threatening injuries to the operator.
The operator of the motorbike, a 16-year-old male resident of Belleview, reported no injuries to the FHP.
The FHP did not release the names of the operators or the passenger involved in the crash.
