Afternoon Breaking News: Driver dies after a two-vehicle collision in Brevard County

Roadblock in effect on US-1

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this afternoon in Brevard County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a 77-year-old Satellite Beach woman was driving a 2013 Subaru Outback sport utility vehicle westbound, exiting a parking lot across from Otter Creek and approaching US-1.

At the same time, a 52-year-old Melbourne woman driving a 2020 Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on US-1, approaching Otter Creek Lane in the inside lane.

As they approached, the SUV driver attempted to cross the northbound lanes of US-1 and entered the direct path of the second vehicle. As a result, the front of the second vehicle struck the left side of the SUV.

The SUV driver was transported to Viera Hospital and pronounced deceased. The driver of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries, according to the report.

There is currently a roadblock for the southbound lanes of US-1 (as of 4pm).

The crash remains under investigation.

 

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
