Breaking Morning News: One dead, one seriously injured after a head-on collision in Sumter County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle collision this morning in Sumter County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:34 a.m., a Chevy sport utility vehicle driven by a 32-year-old Inverness man was traveling eastbound on County Road 476. 

At the same time, a Nissan pickup truck, driven by a 37-year-old Groveland man, was traveling westbound on County Road 476. 

For an unknown reason, west of Southwest 52nd Street, the SUV traveled into the westbound lane and collided nearly head-on with the pickup. 

The SUV driver suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, while the pickup driver suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital. 

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
