Breaking News Overnight: Motorcyclist dies after multi-vehicle collision in Brevard County

Posted

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a multi-vehicle collision in Brevard County last night that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

According to the FHP report, the crash occurred in the southbound lanes of I-95 in the area of mile marker 223 (State Road 46) in Mims.

The crash involved five vehicles: a 2012 Kia Forte, a 2017 Harley Davidson FLHTK, a 2020 Nissan Rogue, a 2023 Dodge Challenger, and a 2022 Harley Davidson FXLRS.

All five vehicles were traveling southbound on I-95 north of State Road 46.

Preliminary evidence shows the first vehicle was traveling southbound on I-95 in the inside lane. The driver failed to maintain the inside lane, ran off the roadway left, and struck the center median guardrail. V1 then rotated and came to a final rest, blocking the southbound lanes of I-95 facing west.

The other four vehicles became involved in a collision due to the vehicle blocking the southbound lane of I-95. The sequence of events that led to these collisions is still under investigation.

The 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle rider (46-year-old male from Merritt Island) was pronounced deceased on-scene.

There was a roadblock for the southbound lanes of I-95 until 3:06 A.M.

The FHP did not release the names of the motorcyclists or drivers who were involved in the collision.

This is breaking news and may be updated if more details are known.
