Breaking News Overnight: Pedestrian hit and killed by Semi-Tractor Trailer in Volusia County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision this morning in Volusia County that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:02 am, a 53-year-old Jacksonville man driving a semi-truck with a trailer was traveling eastbound on West International Speedway Boulevard, approaching Grande Champion Boulevard in the outside lane.

At the same time, a 71-year-old Daytona Beach man was walking southerly and entered the eastbound lanes of West International Speedway Boulevard. The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk and entered the direct path of the semi.

As a result, the vehicle struck the man, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.

 

The FHP did not release the names of the driver or the pedestrian.

The crash remains under investigation.
