Breaking News this Morning: Driver dies after a single-vehicle collision in Putnam County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision this morning in Putnam County that resulted in the death of the driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 6 am, a 20-year-old Crescent City man driving a sport utility vehicle was traveling northbound on County Road 309 at Old Shell Harbor Road.

The SUV was negotiating a right curve in the road when it crossed over the double solid yellow line into the southbound travel lane.

The SUV continued off the road and left onto the west grass shoulder, then it began to rotate,  struck a utility pole, and overturned multiple times, coming to rest on the west grass shoulder.

The driver was pronounced deceased on the scene. A passenger in the vehicle (a 1-year-old girl) received minor injuries in the crash, according to the report.

The FHP did not release the name of the driver or the passenger.
