Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision last night in Collier County that resulted in the death of a bicyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:38 pm, a 61-year-old man riding a bicycle was traveling south on the left turn lane of Wiggins Pass Road, approaching the intersection of US-41.
At the same time, a 29-year-old Naples man driving a sport utility vehicle was traveling north on the center lane of US 41, approaching a green light at the intersection of Wiggins Pass Road.
As they approached, the bicyclist entered the intersection in front of the approaching SUV and collided.
The bicyclist sustained critical injuries, was transported to an area hospital, and was later pronounced deceased.
The SUV driver reported no injuries to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or bicyclist involved in the crash.
