Breaking News Overnight: Passenger on motorcycle suffers critical injuries after a two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County last night, resulting in critical injuries to a motorcycle passenger.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:40 pm, a 66-year-old Port Charlotte man driving a sedan was traveling north on the left turn lane of US 41, at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Main Street.

At the same time, a 39-year-old Port Charlotte man riding a motorcycle with a 23-year-old Port Charlotte woman as a passenger was traveling south on U.S. 41, on the inside lane, approaching Main Street.

As they approached, the sedan failed to yield and turned left in front of the approaching motorcycle, and they collided.

After the crash, the motorcyclist and passenger became separated from the motorcycle.

The passenger sustained critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital. According to the report, the motorcyclist sustained minor injuries.

The sedan driver reported no injuries to the FHP.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the passenger involved in the crash.
