From the Florida Highway Patrol
Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Pasco County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:55 am, an Infiniti G37, driven by a 19-year-old woman, was traveling westbound on SR-54.
At the same time, a Tesla Model 3, driven by a 42-year-old Palm Harbor man, was traveling eastbound on SR-54.
West of Heron Cove Drive, the Infiniti failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, entered a grass median and overturned.
Upon exiting the median, the first vehicle collided head-on with Tesla and both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound travel lanes with the first vehicle erupting in flames post-impact.
Both drivers were seriously injured and transported to area hospitals. The Tesla driver later died from injuries suffered during the crash.
The FHP did not release the name of the drivers involved in the collision.
