From the Florida Highway Patrol
Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision in Lake County this morning that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:09 am, a 69-year-old Leesburg man driving a 2015 Ford Focus was traveling eastbound on County Road 44 approaching Cypress Drive.
For unknown reasons, a 40-year-old Wildwood woman was in the eastbound travel lane in the direct path of the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle struck her.
The pedestrian was transported to Leesburg Regional Medical Center and pronounced deceased. The driver of the vehicle did not report any injuries to the FHP.
This crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or the pedestrian.
