Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision last night in Sumter County that resulted in the death of a bicyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:15 pm, a Ford F250, driven by a 37-year-old Ocala man, was traveling westbound on US-301.
At the same time, a 63-year-old Wildwood man riding a bicycle was traveling eastbound along the westbound road edge without lights.
The driver could not observe the bicyclist, and as a result, the truck collided with the rider west of Mizell Street.
Transported to an area hospital, the bicyclist later died from the injuries he sustained in the collision.
The FHP did not release the name of the driver or bicyclist involved in the crash.
