Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision in Highlands County this morning that resulted in the driver suffering critical injuries.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 2:05 a.m., a 22-year-old Sebring woman driving a sedan was traveling north on Panther Parkway at a high rate of speed while negotiating a right curve.
As it advanced, the vehicle traveled off the roadway, entered the grass median, overcorrected, and entered the grass shoulder, where it collided with a fence, several wooden posts, and overturned.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest on the roadway, sustained critical injuries, and was transported to an area hospital.
A passenger (a 22-year-old Sebring woman) in the vehicle reported minor injuries to the FHP.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the driver or passenger involved in the collision.
