Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision last night in Hillsborough County that resulted in the death of a bicyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:38 PM, a motorized scooter operated by a 41-year-old Tampa woman was traveling southbound in the 11000 block of Dale Mabry Highway in the right turn lane.
At the same time, a bicycle, operated by a 72-year-old Tampa man, was traveling southbound on Dale Mabry Highway along the lane marker separating the right turn lane and the outside travel lane.
While merging into the outside travel lane, the scooter overtook and collided with the bicyclist north of Hudson Lane.
The scooter operator suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the bicyclist suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
The FHP did not release the names of the bicyclist or motorscooter operator involved in the crash.
