A pedestrian was killed early Sunday morning in a hit-and-run crash on U.S. 27 in Hendry County, and the Florida Highway Patrol is asking for the public's help in identifying the driver responsible.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2 am on U.S. 27 near Francisco Street.

Investigators said an unidentified vehicle was traveling south on U.S. 27 when it struck a man who was attempting to cross the highway.

The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been released pending positive identification, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the collision, the driver fled without stopping to render aid or report the crash.

Based on evidence collected at the scene, troopers believe the suspect vehicle may be a dual pickup truck with damage to its left front.

The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Anyone with information about the vehicle or driver involved is asked to contact the Florida Highway Patrol by dialing *FHP or to submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
