Breaking News Overnight: Golf Cart operator charged with DUI Manslaughter after fatal collision in Sumter County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision this morning in Sumter County that resulted in the death of a passenger in a golf cart.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:49 a.m., a golf cart operated by a 58-year-old man from The Villages was traveling northbound on San Marino Drive. 

At the intersection of Santa Clara Circle, the golf cart came upon and swerved to avoid a parked vehicle. 

During the evasive maneuver, a 60-year-old female passenger from Norridge, Illinois, fell out of the golf cart and suffered serious injuries. 

Transported to an area hospital, the passenger later expired from injuries suffered during the crash. 

The golf cart operator, Richard Allen Keil, was found to be impaired and was later arrested by FHP Troopers for DUI Manslaughter. 

 The FHP did not release the passenger's name involved in the crash.
