Breaking News Overnight: One dead, five injured after a two-vehicle collision in Hillsborough County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision last night in Hillsborough County that resulted in the death of a passenger.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:48 pm, a Dodge SUV, driven by a 16-year-old Temple Terrace male, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 4 in the middle lane. 

At the same time, a Cadillac CTS, driven by a 17-year-old Tampa male, was traveling eastbound on I-4 in the inside lane. 

Near Milepost 15, the first vehicle attempted to change lanes and collided with the second vehicle. 

After the collision, both vehicles rotated to the outside shoulder, where the second vehicle overturned and the first vehicle struck a concrete culvert. 

The first driver suffered minor injuries while the second driver was uninjured.  An unrestrained passenger (a 16-year-old male from Tampa) traveling in the first vehicle suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. Two teenagers from Tampa (15 and 16-year-old males) suffered serious injuries. Three teenagers in the second vehicle (a 16-year-old female from Tampa and two 16-year-old males from Seffner) reported minor injuries to the FHP.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the collision.
