Breaking News Overnight: One dead, one injured after a single-vehicle collision in Volusia County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision last night in Volusia County that resulted in the death of the driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:13 pm, a 2004 Toyota Tacoma driven by an 18-year-old Pierson man was traveling northbound on Murphy Road south of Chameleon Road. The driver was traveling above the speed limit, lost control, and overturned.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash. A passenger in the vehicle (a 19-year-old man from Pierson) sustained minor injuries.

The FHP did not release the names of the driver or passenger.
