A 60-year-old Green Cove Springs man was killed Thursday night after being struck by a car while crossing U.S. Highway 17, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred at approximately 9:02 pm near the intersection of U.S. 17 and Little Ruth Road.

According to the FHP report, an 18-year-old Green Cove Springs man was driving a sedan north in the highway’s left travel lane as he approached the intersection. The pedestrian was walking across the northbound lanes from Little Ruth Road when he entered the vehicle’s path.

The front of the sedan struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, who was not injured, moved the vehicle into the center median following the collision.

FHP did not identify either man in its report.
