A 77-year-old Ocala woman was killed Saturday after a sedan struck an SUV at the intersection of SW 49th Avenue Road and SW 82nd Place Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at noon. FHP said two sedans were traveling north on SW 49th Avenue Road recklessly and at high speed as the SUV attempted to enter the roadway from SW 82nd Place Road.
One of the sedans, driven by a 28-year-old Ocala man, struck the left side of the SUV, the report said. The driver was not injured.
The SUV’s driver, a 48-year-old Ocala man, suffered minor injuries. A 78-year-old Ocala man who was riding in the SUV suffered serious injuries, and the 77-year-old woman was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital. FHP said all three occupants were wearing seat belts.
The other sedan continued north after the crash, according to FHP. The agency did not provide a description of the vehicle or identifying information about its driver.
Charges are pending against the driver of the sedan that struck the SUV, FHP said. Troopers are continuing efforts to locate the other vehicle.
The investigation remains active. FHP did not release the names of those involved.
