From the Marion County Sheriff's Office

PHONE SCAM ALERT!!

We have received information that our citizens are receiving a call from (352) 282-0952 stating they are a deputy from Marion County Sheriff's Office Civil Process Division. Normally, we do not state the phone numbers these scammers are calling from due to it normally being a "spoofed" phone number. However, this number brings you to a voicemail that sounds like it is the Marion County Sheriff's Office Civil Division.

THIS IS A SCAM!!!

If you receive a phone call like this, please do not give them any information and hang up the phone immediately!

For those wondering what a "Spoofed" phone number is:

Spoofing is when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. Scammers often use neighbor spoofing so it appears that an incoming call is coming from a local number, or spoof a number from a company or a government agency that you may already know and trust. If you answer, they use scam scripts to try to steal your money or valuable personal information, which can be used in fraudulent activity. NEVER GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION.
