From the Florida Highway Patrol and Staff Reports
An Apollo Beach man was killed Friday evening after his vehicle overturned multiple times following a rear-end crash along U.S. Highway 301, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:52 pm on April 10 along northbound US-301, just north of Shady Preserve Drive.
According to investigators, a BMW sedan driven by a 31-year-old Apollo Beach man was traveling northbound on US-301 when it approached a Ford Escape ahead of it, driven by a 40-year-old Riverview woman. Troopers say the BMW overtook the SUV and collided with its rear.
The impact caused the Ford Escape to rotate and come to rest in the northbound travel lanes. Meanwhile, the BMW veered into the median and overturned multiple times.
During the rollover, the driver of the BMW was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries at the scene.
The driver of the Ford Escape was not injured in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.
