Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision in Highlands County last night that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 10:14 om, a 19-year-old St. Cloud man driving a Ford F-250 was traveling east on SR-70, approaching the intersection of CR-721.
At the same time, a 21-year-old Moore Haven man driving a Ford F-150 and transporting two passengers (a 23-year-old Okeechobee man and a 24-year-old Okeechobee woman) was traveling west on SR-70, east of CR-721, and an 18-year-old Okeechobee man driving a Ford Ranger was traveling west on SR-70, east of CR-721, directly behind the second vehicle.
As he approached, the first driver attempted to turn left at the intersection, directly in front of the approaching second vehicle, and they collided.
As a result, the front of the third vehicle then collided with the rear of the second vehicle.
After the crash, the second vehicle collided with the guardrail, entered the grass ditch, and overturned. The first passenger was ejected from the second vehicle.
The driver in the third vehicle sustained critical injuries, was transported to an area hospital, and was later pronounced deceased. The other drivers and passengers were transported to area hospitals with injuries.
The crash investigation remains ongoing.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or passengers involved in the collision.
