Updating Breaking News: Pedestrian hit and killed by SUV in Hernando County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle this afternoon in Hernando County that resulted in the death of the pedestrian.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:50 pm, a Toyota Sienna sport utility vehicle driven by a 44-year-old Hudson man was traveling southbound on US-19. 

Near the intersection of Algood Lane, a pedestrian walking eastbound across the highway entered the path and was struck by the SUV. 

The pedestrian, a 76-year-old Hudson woman, entered the path and was struck by the SUV.

Transported to an area hospital, the pedestrian later expired from injuries suffered during the crash. 

The FHP did not release the names of the driver or pedestrian involved in the crash.
