A 42-year-old Leesburg man was killed and a second pedestrian was seriously injured after they were struck by an SUV Friday night in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:50 pm July 31 on State Road 574, west of North 68th Street.
According to the FHP report, a Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 72-year-old Largo man was traveling westbound on SR 574 when two pedestrians attempted to cross the highway.
Both pedestrians entered the SUV’s path and were struck, troopers said.
The Leesburg man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second pedestrian, a 54-year-old Miami man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
FHP did not report any injuries to the driver of the Equinox.
No additional information about the circumstances surrounding the crash was immediately available. The investigation remains ongoing.
