Three men were killed, and another suffered minor injuries in a four-vehicle crash Thursday morning on State Road 100 at Bardin Road in Putnam County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:06 am and involved two sedans and two pickup trucks. Those killed were a 64-year-old Alachua man driving one sedan and two Orlando men, ages 23 and 26, traveling in the other.

According to FHP, the Alachua man was driving east on State Road 100 when he entered the westbound lane to pass two pickup trucks. His sedan collided with a westbound sedan driven by the 23-year-old Orlando man, with the front-left portions of the vehicles striking each other.

The impact sent the eastbound sedan into the left side of one pickup truck. Both vehicles left the paved roadway and traveled down the southern embankment, where the sedan overturned several times before coming to rest on its right side.

The westbound sedan rotated and stopped on the north shoulder. The other pickup truck ran over the westbound sedan’s engine before stopping on the south shoulder, according to the report.

The driver of the pickup struck by the eastbound sedan, a 46-year-old Palatka man, suffered minor injuries. The other pickup’s driver, a 24-year-old Moultrie, Georgia, man, and his 27-year-old male passenger, also of Moultrie, were uninjured.

FHP reported that the Alachua driver and the 26-year-old Orlando passenger were not wearing seat belts. The 23-year-old Orlando driver and all three pickup truck occupants were wearing seat belts.
