Breaking Morning News: Bicyclist hit and killed by truck in Columbia County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a traffic crash involving a fatality that occurred in Columbia County this morning on the northbound exit ramp from Interstate 75 to State Road 47.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 8 am, a truck towing a trailer driven by a 58-year-old Melbourne man was traveling north on the northbound exit ramp before coming to a complete stop at the intersection with State Road 47.
At the same time a 64-year-old Lake City man riding as bicycle was traveling south within the pedestrian crosswalk.
As they approached, the driver of the truck turned right to enter State Road 47 causing the front of the truck to collide with and run over the bicyclist within the crosswalk.
The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.
This investigation is on-going.
The FHP did not release the name of the driver or bicyclist involved in the collision.
