From the Florida Highway Patrol
Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Charlotte County this morning that resulted in the death of both drivers.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:07 am, an 81-year-old Arcadia woman driving a 2020 Chevrolet was traveling south on State Road 31.
At the same time, a 23-year-old Punta Gorda woman driving a 2017 Hyundai was traveling north on SR-31.
As they advanced, the first vehicle attempted to pass other southbound traffic via the northbound travel lane and collided with the second vehicle head-on on the northbound travel lane of State Road 31.
Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.
