Breaking Morning News: Pedestrian hit and killed by vehicle in Columbia County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash in Columbia County this morning that resulted in the death of a passenger.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:20 am, a GMC Jimmy sport utility vehicle driven by a 31-year-old Lake City man, was disabled in the westbound lane of State Road 100 near County Road 245A. The previous driver of the vehicle was standing at the rear of the SUV (now a pedestrian).
At the same time, a sedan driven by a 56-year-old Hawthorne man was traveling west on State Road 100. The front of the sedan struck the pedestrian immediately before striking the rear and left side of the SUV. The first vehicle came to a final rest on its left side on the north shoulder of State Road 100. The second vehicle came to a final rest facing southeast in the eastbound travel lane of State Road 100.
The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries, according to the report, while the sedan driver reported no injuries to the FHP.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the collision.
