From the Florida Highway Patrol
Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision this morning in Alachua County that resulted in the death of the driver.
According to the FHP report, shortly after midnight, a sport utility vehicle driven by a 19-year-old Alachua man was traveling north on NW 165th Street at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate a curve, and ran off the roadway onto the east shoulder, where the front of the vehicle collided with a tree.
The driver, and lone occupant, was pronounced deceased on the scene.
This incident is being investigated by FHP’s Traffic Homicide Unit.
FHP was assisted by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Alachua County Fire Rescue.
The FHP did not release the name of the driver.
