A 69-year-old Sarasota woman was killed Saturday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and Northwest 174th Avenue in Alachua County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:44 pm at the rural intersection in northern Alachua County.
According to FHP, a 61-year-old Branford man was driving a Ford F-350 pickup when it struck the rear of a Toyota SUV that was stopped in traffic.
The impact forced the Toyota off the roadway before the Ford continued forward and collided with the rear of a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 68-year-old man from Walhonding, Ohio.
The driver of the Toyota, a 69-year-old Sarasota woman, suffered fatal injuries and died as a result of the crash, troopers said.
The Branford driver and the Ohio driver were both wearing seat belts and were not injured in the collision. The Sarasota woman was also wearing her seat belt, according to FHP.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
