Breaking News Overnight: Driver dies after a two-vehicle collision in St. Johns County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in St. Johns County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:55 am, a sedan driven by a 64-year-old St. Johns man driving a Jeep Cherokee, was traveling north on Interstate-95 in the outside travel lane. At the same time, a 38-year-old Pompano Beach man driving a Freightliner semi-truck with a trailer attached was traveling north on Interstate-95 in the outside travel lane in front of the first vehicle.
As he approached, the driver of the first vehicle failed to maintain a safe following distance from the second vehicle, and it struck the rear of the second vehicle's trailer.
The driver of the first vehicle was transported to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
This investigation is ongoing.
The FHP did not release the drivers' names involved in the crash.
