Breaking News Overnight: Pedestrian hit and killed by vehicle in St. Johns County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision last night in St. Johns County that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 8:25 pm, a sedan driven by a 71-year-old St. Augustine woman was traveling eastbound on State Road 16 west of S. Francis Road.

According to witnesses, a 29-year-old St. Augustine man was in a verbal altercation within a vehicle. As that vehicle slowed, he exited the vehicle and ran across State Road 16 in a northwesterly direction directly into the sedan's path.

The sedan driver was unable to slow down in time, and the pedestrian impacted the front and windshield of the sedan. The pedestrian was redirected in an easterly direction, where he came to a final rest on the south shoulder of State Road 16.

The sedan came to a controlled stop just west of the pedestrian on the south shoulder of State Road 16.

According to the report, the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries. The sedan driver did not report any injuries to the FHP.

The FHP did not release the name of the driver or pedestrian involved in the crash.
