Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a collision yesterday in Pasco County that resulted in the death of a driver.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 12:10 am, a Ford Explorer, driven by a 21-year-old Lutz man, was traveling eastbound on SR-54 in the outside lane, approaching Crescent Moon Drive.
At the same time, a 40-year-old Land O' Lakes woman's Honda Civic was stopped along the outside road edge for unknown reasons.
Just as the first vehicle was passing the second vehicle, the driver opened the door and exited the vehicle, only to be struck by the first vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. The driver of the first vehicle was uninjured during the incident, while a passenger traveling in the second vehicle, a 37-year-old Odessa man, suffered minor injuries.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the passenger involved in the collision.
