Breaking News Overnight: Head-on collision in Manatee County kills driver, injures two others

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision this morning in Manatee County that resulted in the driver's death.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 1:52 am, a 32-year-old Wimauma man driving a sedan was initially traveling north (wrong way) on the southbound lanes of Interstate 275, began to travel north (wrong way)and then entered Interstate 75 and began to travel north (wrong way) on the southbound lanes.

At the same time, a 23-year-old Bradenton woman driving a sedan was traveling south on southbound Interstate 75, on the left lane, at mile marker 233.

A 29-year-old St. Cloud man driving a sedan was traveling south on southbound Interstate 75, on the center lane, at mile marker 233.

As they approached, the front of the first vehicle collided with the front of the second vehicle head-on.

After the initial collision, the front of the third vehicle collided with the rear of the second vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle (wrong-way driver) was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle sustained a critical injury and was flown to Tampa General Hospital. A passenger in the second vehicle (a 42-year-old Bradenton man) suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The driver of the third vehicle reported no injuries to the FHP.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
