Breaking News Overnight: Motorcyclist dies after collision with vehicle in Sarasota County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision in Sarasota County last night that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 11:24 p.m., a 22-year-old Sarasota man riding a motorcycle was traveling south on US 41 at a high rate of speed in the left lane, approaching the intersection with Landings Boulevard.
At the same time, a 43-year-old Sarasota man driving a sedan was traveling north on US 41, on the left turn lane, approaching the intersection with Landings Boulevard.
As they approached, the sedan initiated a left turn towards Landings Boulevard and began to travel across the southbound lanes of US 41. The front of the motorcycle collided with the sedan in the intersection.
After the crash, the motorcyclist was separated from the motorcycle and later pronounced deceased on the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
The FHP did not release the names of the motorcyclist or the sedan driver.
