Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a three-vehicle collision in Charlotte County last night, resulting in a motorcyclist's death.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 7:46 pm, a 28-year-old Englewood man riding a motorcycle was traveling south on South McCall Road at a high rate of speed approaching Point of Pines Road.
At the same time, a 67-year-old Englewood man driving a sedan was stationary, facing north on South McCall Road in the center turn lane, awaiting traffic to clear to turn left. A third vehicle was traveling south on South McCall Road in the left lane, approaching Point of Pines Road.
As they approached, the motorcycle traveling south in the center turn lane attempted to pass between the stationary second vehicle and the southbound third vehicle but collided with the front of the sedan.
After the collision, the motorcyclist separated from his vehicle and collided with the sedan's windshield.
Post-collision crash debris collided with the third vehicle.
The sedan driver sustained injuries and was transported to Englewood Hospital to be treated.
The motorcyclist sustained critical injuries, was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, and was later pronounced deceased.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or motorcyclist involved in the crash.
