Breaking News this Morning: Driver dies after a head-on collision in Putnam County

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision this morning in Putnam County that resulted in the death of a driver.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 5 a.m., a 61-year-old Ocala man driving a tractor-trailer combination was traveling northbound on State Road 19, and a 45-year-old Haines City man driving a Honda Pilot sport utility vehicle was traveling southbound on SR 19 at South Marion Street.

As they approached, the Honda traveled from the southbound lane to the northbound lane of SR 19, directly into the path of the tractor/trailer, colliding head-on.

The driver of the Honda was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased on the scene. The tractor/trailer driver reported no injuries to the FHP.

Both vehicles came to final rest on the west grass shoulder.

The SUV was negotiating a right curve in the road when it crossed over the double solid yellow line into the southbound travel lane.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
