A 68-year-old Daytona Beach man was killed Friday morning while crossing U.S. 92 near General Custer Avenue in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 7 am on U.S. 92, also known as International Speedway Boulevard. A 48-year-old Ormond Beach woman was driving a 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport west in the outside lane as she approached General Custer Avenue.
According to FHP, the pedestrian was walking north across the roadway outside a marked crosswalk and entered the SUV’s path. The front of the vehicle struck him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was uninjured, remained at the scene, and was not transported for medical treatment. According to the report, she was wearing a seat belt.
FHP did not release the pedestrian’s name but reported that his next of kin had been notified. The crash remains under investigation.
