An 18-year-old Immokalee man was killed Sunday afternoon in a crash involving a minibike and an SUV at a Collier County intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 5:10 pm at the intersection of Palm Drive and Lake Trafford Road.
Troopers say the teen was riding a gas-powered minibike north on Palm Drive and approached a stop sign at Lake Trafford Road. At the same time, a 65-year-old Immokalee woman was traveling east on Lake Trafford Road in an SUV.
According to investigators, the minibike entered the intersection and was struck by the SUV, which then struck the rider.
Following the collision, the teen was thrown from the minibike and suffered critical injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the SUV was not injured.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
The FHP did not release the names of the drivers involved in the crash.
