Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single-vehicle collision in Duval County yesterday that resulted in the death of a passenger.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 4:27 pm, a sedan driven by a 25-year-old Jacksonville woman was traveling northbound on I-295 in the right travel lane approaching the exit ramp of I-10 eastbound. The driver failed to maintain her lane while navigating the curve. As a result, the vehicle rotated and struck a standing tree.
The passenger, a 36-year-old Jacksonville man, was transported to the hospital, where he was declared deceased. The driver suffered critical injuries, according to the FHP report.
At the same time, a pickup truck was parked in the outside lane of State Road 23 behind a coned-off accident scene, and a sedan was parked in front of it.
The FHP did not release the name of the driver or passenger involved in the crash.
