Updating Breaking News: FHP arrests suspect in fatal hit-and-run collision with 8-year-old

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a hit-and-run incident in Columbia County yesterday that resulted in the death of an 8-year-old pedestrian.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 6:47 pm, a sport utility vehicle driven by a 38-year-old Miami man was traveling eastbound on US 90, struck a pedal cyclist (an 8-year-old from Lake City), and continued traveling east. The pedal cyclist was transported to the hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.

The suspect, vehicle, and driver, who initially fled the crash scene, were later found, and the suspect driver was arrested.
