Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle collision yesterday in Putnam County that left a motorcyclist and passenger with critical injuries.
According to the FHP report, at approximately 9:18 pm, a pickup truck driven by a 38-year-old Pierson man was traveling south on U.S. 17.
At the same time, a motorcycle driven by a 57-year-old Crescent City man was stopped within the southbound lane of U.S. 17, waiting for northbound traffic to pass by, to make a left turn onto Paradise Shores Road.
As they approached, the pickup truck failed to stop behind the motorcycle, and the front right collided with the rear of the motorcycle.
The driver and passenger (a 57-year-old Crescent City woman) of the motorcycle were ejected and came to final rest within the southbound lane of U.S. 17, facing east.
The pickup came to final rest just south of Paradise Shores Road, within the southbound lane on U.S. 17, facing in a southeasterly direction.
According to the FHP report, the motorcyclist and passenger suffered critical injuries.
No injuries were reported from the driver or passengers in the pickup truck.
The FHP did not release the names of either driver or passengers involved in the crash.
