Updating Breaking News: Multi-vehicle collision in Manatee County kills bicyclist

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a multiple-vehicle collision this morning in Manatee County that resulted in the death of a bicyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 5:59 am, a 55-year-old Bradenton man on a bicycle was crossing State Road 70 (53rd Ave East), east of 11th Street Circle East.

At the same time, a pickup truck driven by a 19-year-old Bradenton man was traveling east on State Road 70, approaching the intersection of 11th Street Circle East.

A sport utility vehicle driven by a 53-year-old North Port woman was traveling west on State Road 70, approaching the intersection of 11th Street Circle East.

A third vehicle  was traveling west on State Road 70, approaching the intersection of 11th Street Circle East.

As they approached, the bicyclist traveled into the path of Vehicle 1, and they collided.

After the crash, the second vehicle veered to avoid but collided with the bicyclist. A third vehicle (unknown) also collided with the bicycle and continued in a westbound direction.

The crash remains under investigation.

The bicyclist suffered fatal injuries in the crash. None of the drivers in the crash reported any injuries to the FHP.The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the name of the drivers or the bicyclist.
