Updating Breaking News: Multi-vehicle collision in Manatee County kills motorcyclist

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a multiple-vehicle collision yesterday in Manatee County that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist.

According to the FHP report, at approximately 3:54 pm Wednesday, a 22-year-old Englewood woman driving a sport utility vehicle was traveling south on 115th Street West, approaching the intersection of State Road 684 (Cortez Road).

At the same time, a pickup truck with a trailer driven by a 54-year-old Bradenton man was traveling east on State Road 684 (Cortez Road) on the left lane, approaching the intersection of 115th Street West.

Also approaching was a motorcycle driven by a 52-year-old Bradenton man who was traveling west on State Road 684 (Cortez Road) in the left lane, heading toward the intersection of 115th Street West.

As the three vehicles approached, the SUV attempted to negotiate a left turn onto Cortez Road as the pickup approached the intersection. The right front of the SUV collided with the left rear of the pickup and the left side of the trailer.

After the initial collision, the SUV was re-directed into the path of the motorcycle, and they also collided.

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

The FHP did not release the names of the drivers or the motorcyclist involved in the collision.
